From 15 to 18 June 2026, the HEAd'26 Conference (The 12th International Conference on Higher Education Advances) was held at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Polytechnic University of Valencia), bringing together more than 250 participants from higher education institutions around the world.

The conference featured presentations, workshops, and discussions on key issues in contemporary higher education, including the implementation of sustainability principles, the challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and learning, internationalisation, innovative approaches to developing students' research skills, assessment of learning outcomes, strengthening student motivation in response to labour market demands, and the role of online distance learning in modern higher education.

The conference was also attended by Associate Professor Zigrīda Vinčela from the Department of English Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia. Together with Associate Professor Jana Kuzmina, she presented a paper on the development of the Language Technologies online distance learning course and the stages of its implementation. The course was developed within the framework of the Language Technology Initiative project to promote awareness of contemporary language technologies and their thoughtful application in students' research activities.
