We are pleased to invite you to the closing event of the advanced digital skills projects Quantum Technology Initiative and Language Technology Initiative, which will take place on 26 June 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, in the Alfa Auditorium at the University of Latvia House of Science, Jelgavas Street 3, Riga.
The programme will open with welcome addresses by Ieva Siliņa, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, and Professor Gundars Bērziņš, Rector of the University of Latvia. This will be followed by presentations of the results achieved by the Quantum Technology Initiative project, delivered by Professor Andris Ambainis (Quantum Computing Centre, Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia), Professor Jurģis Poriņš (Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Electronic Communications, Riga Technical University), and Gunta Kunakova (Institute of Chemical Physics, University of Latvia).
The results of the Language Technology Initiative project will then be presented by Professor Inguna Skadiņa (Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia) and Professor Normunds Grūzītis (Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia).
The event will also feature a panel discussion entitled "Quantum and Language Technologies – A Long-Term Investment in Latvia's Future." The discussion will bring together Ieva Siliņa, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science; Professor Vjačeslavs Kaščejevs, Head of the Nanoelectronics Theory Group at the Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia; Andris Anspoks, Director of the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia; Professor Normunds Grūzītis, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia; and Andrejs Vasiļjevs, Co-founder and Member of the Board of Tilde. The formal programme will conclude with an opportunity for networking and informal discussions.
