We cordially invite you to a guest lecture on September 25, 2025 at 4:30 PM in the 16th auditorium of the main building of the University of Latvia (Raiņa bulvāris 19). Professor and researcher Jurgita Kapočiūtė-Dzikienė will speak as part of the course “Applications of Language Technologies”.

Jurgita Kapočiūtė-Dzikienė (Dr. sc. comp.) is a professor at the Faculty of Informatics of Vytautas Magnus University and the senior and leading researcher in language technologies at Tilde Lithuania.

Information about the guest lecture:
Large Language Models (LLM) are transforming our thinking about language and reasoning, but their diversity (GPT, Gemma, Llama, DeepSeek, Grok and others) can be confusing. In this lecture, we will look into the "black boxes" of LLMs, exploring their internal mechanisms (e.g., refinement approaches, chain reasoning, expert pooling, extended retrieval generation, etc.) that allow them to reason, plan, and generate better answers. We will also discuss how different LLM families differ and what these differences may mean in practice.

The guest lecture is implemented with the financial support of VTI. The project "Language Technology Initiative" (No. 2.3.1.1.i.0/1/22/I/CFLA/002) is co-financed by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility Investment and the State Budget.
